Retirement Story Number One
You’re middle aged and enjoying your life. Retirement is an unimportant goal down the road. Ya, you’re supposed to save for retirement. But you procrastinate and will deal with it tomorrow.
Fast forward. You are now 65. You look at your savings and it’s not a lot. You receive an average monthly Social Security check of $1,503. You realize and worry that you don’t have enough money for a comfortable retirement. What happened? Where did you go wrong? You feel powerless, like a victim. You also feel mad. Retirement is a curse, not a blessing for you. It’s a villain. You are mad at the world, your loved ones and yourself for not saving more money.
Retirement Story Number Two
You’re middle aged and enjoying your life. Retirement is an important goal down the road. So you become your own guide and determine how to save for retirement. You have 100 different choices. You can save money in your favorite piggy bank, open an IRA or brokerage account. You create a plan and execute it.
Fast forward. You are now 65. You look at various accounts with money in them. You use money from these accounts to enjoy your retirement. You also receive an average monthly Social Security check of $1,503. You’re enjoying your retirement. Retirement is a blessing, not a curse for you. You are a hero because you listened to the guide within you.
